Lev Klementiev nació el 12 de febrero de 1868 en San Petersburgo. Estudió en una escuela militar y, posteriormente, en una escuela de negocios. A la edad de 19 años comenzó a cantar opereta mientras tomaba clases de canto con Krjzizanovsky. Durante 1889 estudió en París con Olivieri, y en 1890 en Milán con Petz. En el Bolshoi cantó durante diez temporadas (1892-1902), debutando en el rol de Hermann. Dotado de una voz poderosa y extensa (más de dos octavas) sus principales papeles fueron: Nerón (Rubinstein), Hermann, Lensky, Canio, Raúl, Don José, Riccardo (Ballo) y Tannhäuser. Lev Klementiev murió el 13 de Octubre de 1910 en Tiflis durante una actuación.
