VIEW/New works mean opera won't suffer a tragic fate. Bravo!

The curtain was about to go up on Jake Heggie's "The End of the Affair" at the Seattle Opera when Speight Jenkins, the company's voluble general director, got onto the topic of "Doctor Atomic," which he had just seen at the San Francisco Opera.
"I loved it, I just loved it," he said. "I'm going to see what we can do about putting it on up here. . . . ."
