Last year, Mr. AlmaMelone included me in a
message SUGGESTING with no proof and without my permission, that I cannot speak English, I will my express my opinion:
Mrs. Oropesa is really an accomplished coloratura soprano. I enjoyed her Lucia but I am quite far to call her "the new Callas" because not only she is still vocally young and a raising star, but also Mrs. Oropesa lacks completely the amazing Callas' low register and her virtuous sense of tragedy and drama shown in every rendition of her roles.
The new Maria Callas? Does Oropesa's voice allows her to sing Aida, Tosca or Norma or even Lady Macbeth? Even when Mrs. Oropesa would become a legend, she would do it by being an artist in her own, like all great sopranos did (Caballé, Sutherland, Gruberova) without carrying such a limitating comparative name.
I am a fond of Oropesa's rendition of Lucia and I hope to see her again in Traviata or whatever. But she CANNOT be the new Callas due the different kinds of fach between them and since the miracolous pathos Callas developed in her renditions are very far still to be reached by anyone. I am quite sure that Mr. AlmaMelone knows that Callas started singing heavy repertoire, unlike Oropesa.
Our beloved Lisette herself would find tender but not certain this comparison because she will, I am quite sure, develop her new art, but far from reaching that tragic spirit.
Cheers,
Angelparsifal
